Holmes Street Combined Sewer Separation

The sanitary sewers in the Holmes Street area were a combined system with both storm water runoff and wastewater from homes and businesses are carried by the same sewer service lines to the wastewater treatment plant, resulting in system overflows during rain events. The City of Frankfort Sewer Department developed a Long-Term Control Plan for its Combined Sewer System (CSO) for a neighborhood sewer improvement project for the Holmes Street area which separated selected sanitary sewer lines from the storm water collection system to improve both the sanitary sewer collection system and storm water drainage in the neighborhood.

The Holmes Street Sanitary Sewer Separation project consisted of construction of approximately 2,000 lineal feet of 48-inch storm sewer pipelines. This was accomplished by a single pass pipe jacking method via four drives, with a maximum drive length of approximately 700 feet.
